Kimaya Kama began in 2012 in a small space in South Orange, New Jersey, built on a love for beautiful things, meaningful gifts, and creating a warm welcoming shopping experience. In 2015, we moved to Maplewood Village, where our little boutique grew into a beloved community destination for unique clothing, gifts, home goods, jewelry, and treasures from around the world.

The name Kimaya Kama means Magic & Desire, that spirit has always guided everything we do. We believe shopping should feel personal, inspiring, and joyful. From handcrafted finds and cozy candles to globally inspired treats and thoughtful gifts, every item in our store is carefully chosen in small quantities so there is always something special waiting to be discovered.

Over the past 11 years in our Maplewood space, Kimaya Kama became more than just a shop. It became a place for connection, community events, celebrations, conversations, and friendships. We are endlessly grateful to the customers, neighbors, and fellow small businesses who supported us through every chapter.

In 2026, our building changed ownership and we were faced with a very significant increase in rent from the new landlords. Like many independent small businesses, we had to make difficult decisions about how to continue sustainably while remaining part of the community we love so much.

Although it was heartbreaking to leave the storefront we called home for over a decade, we are incredibly grateful that this is not goodbye to Maplewood Village but only the beginning of a new chapter.

We are excited to now be sharing space with Kokoro as they reopen their beautiful shop. The move feels especially meaningful because Kokoro means heart and spirit in Japanese which perfect pairs with Kimaya Kama’s magic and desire.

Our new shared home allows us to continue doing what we love most: bringing beauty, creativity, comfort, and community to Maplewood Village.
